1929 STUDIOS’ COVID-19 POLICY

Values

1929 Studios is a social enterprise dance school. We believe that dance can be a vehicle for social change and we actively promote promote community health and vitality.

Lindy hop is a part of Black American culture and history. We work to preserve, respect, and uphold the work and art of lindy hop elders.

Lindy hop is an art form. It is also a site for joy, for creative self-expression, and for community strength.

  • These goals are deliberately limited in scope. We focus on things we can do as dancers:

    1. Keep covid out

    2. Keep people connected

  • We developed a practical strategy that built on these values and goals:

    1. Look after each other (mutual care is more powerful than top-down hierarchies of care.)

    2. Strong communities are healthy communities (keeping people connected gives better results.)

    3. Equity is essential to strong communities (communities are most resilient when their members have regular, healthy contact.)

    4. Use good information (Government guidelines and information: Vic Dept of Health, NSW Dept of Health; Australian govt Dept of Health; recent, reputable research.)

    5. Be agile (be prepared to make changes at very little notice.)

    6. Call in, don't call out (don't punish people for staying home or notifying about positive test results; provide support for people who miss out; encourage self-regulation, not official regulation.)

  • We put all these values, goals, and strategy into practice with 4 clear actions:

    1. 'Don't take covid dancing' (stay home if test positive or have symptoms)

    2. 'Vaccinate' (encourage vaccination)

    3. 'Keep it clean' (masks, hygiene, distancing, etc)

    4. 'Stay in touch' (1929 Studios reaches out; encouraging people to reach back; people reach out to each other.)

  • These detailed guidelines have been rewritten and carefully phrased for our public guidelines.

Our goal isn’t to make and police rules, but to keep us connected, and keep covid off our dance floors. So we call in, rather than calling out, and we offer pathways for people to take care of their own health, and the health of the people around them.

1. Don’t take covid dancing.

1. Tested positive for covid?

Please do not attend classes or parties until 7 days after you no longer have symptoms.

2. Got Covid symptoms?

Please do not attend a class or party.

Not sure if your symptoms are legit? Use our wellness checker!

3. Close contact with someone who's tested positive?

Please wait 7 days before attending a class or party.

Tested positive? Got symptoms? Close contact? Stay home.

2. Vaccinate

1. Proof of vaccination

We no longer require proof of vaccination when attending a class or party.

2. Boosters

We don’t require you to have had a recent booster. But it’s important to know that, unlike some other diseases, covid immunity requires six-monthly vaccination boosters. To be properly vaccinated, you must have had the initial 2-dose course, and your most recent booster must be no longer than 5 months ago (and a minimum of 10 days ago.)

3. Had covid

Having covid gives you some immunity, but it’s not as effective or reliable as a vaccination.

Cases of vaccinated covid are less severe, and don’t last as long.
This reduces the spread of covid.

3. Keep it clean.

1. Wash your hands

Sanitise, or wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds when you arrive, after handling a mask, before you eat, and after every dance partner.

2. Cover your mouth

Cough or sneeze into your elbow, and then immediately wash your hands.

3. Don’t share

Don’t share water bottles, food, or cups. Keep sweat towels in your bag, and wash your hands after using them.

4. masks

Wearing masks is strongly recommended to prevent the spread of omicron (What type? medical respirators: N95, P2; a well-fitting surgical mask; not cloth masks).

Covid spreads in droplets from your mouth and nose. They are blown into the air and onto surfaces when you cough, sneeze, laugh, shout, or sing.

4. Stay in touch.

1. Let us know if you get sick

We’ll miss you, but you won’t miss out (and we’ll keep you anonymous in our records).

2. Provide your details

Be prepared to provide your contact details (email and phone number) when registering for a class or purchasing tickets (online or at the door).

3. Refunds

We can no longer offer refunds for missed classes or parties. If you do miss a party or pre-paid class, email us by 12pm on the day of the event at info@1929studios.com.

Strong communities are healthy communities.
